If you’ve been a reader of this fine website (dedicated to those of yous who are displaced phans of Philly sports), then you’ll surely remember my phantastic 6th place finish in the 2012 Flyers Beard-A-Thon (thanks again to everyone that donated)…
Impressive, I know. If you look at who finished 4th and 9th, you’ll see that I was up against serious competition. Max Talbot finished in 9th and Scott Hartnell finished in 4th place with an even $1,000. I personally donated $10 to Hartnell’s total which bumped him into 4 digit territory.
Throughout the donation period, I bugged Hartsy on Twitter for a donation. I suggested that he pledge a prorated donation based on his salary. Since his salary for the 2011-12 season was approximately 76.3 times more than mine, I suggested a donation of $763. Simple and fair enough, yet he didn’t donate a dime. That meager donation would’ve propelled me into 3rd place and more importantly, raised that much more money for Flyers Charities.
Look, I’m a forgiving man. I spend way too much time, energy, and legality detesting every other team in the NHL to get too upset with one of our own players. Plus, now that he’s signed to six more years playing with the Flyers, he’ll have six more chances to right this wrong, since the Flyers make the playoffs every damn year.
Just to show that there are no hard feelings, you should buy something from Scott Hartnell’s charity, The #Hartnell Down Foundation. Open up your wallets and Let’s Go Flyers!
By the way, I’m pretty sure that you can still donate to Beard-A-Thon (mine, not Hartsy’s).
